What is a Biokineticist?
A Biokineticist is someone who prescribes scientific training programmes according to preference, need and situation, with the purpose to improve such a person’s level of wellness and daily activity and to prevent ailments due to inactivity.
Benefits of regular exercise
Studies have shown that regular exercise can prevent or lower the incidence of cardio-vascular disease, hypertension, obesity, Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, depression etc.
The 4 main areas where biokinetics can play an important role are the following:
- General health and fitness (including lifestyle related conditions such as osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity and posture problems)
- Cardiac rehabilitation (For example, post heart attack, angioplasty)
- Orthopedic rehabilitation (pre- and post operative, for example knee, hip, back and shoulders)
- Corporate Wellness (health risk screening or a 3 hour workshop that will help the employee understand the value of wellness and a healthy lifestyle.
Who can exercise?
If you change your lifestyle from inactivity to an active one, it will lower the incidence of illness and ailment for people 40 and older. A study on people 90 years and older who had never exercised before demonstrated an improvement in general health. In other words, you are never too old or too young to start exercising!
